A flurry of Obama polls

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/ 2008/latestpolls/index.html

In a flurry of polls released today, Barack Obama has had a great day.

First off there was Quinnipiac which surveyed the three most important battleground states, Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania, and in each Obama lead. In Florida it was Obama ahead 47-43. In Ohio it was 48-42, while in Pa., Obama had a 12 point edge 52-40. Winning at least one of these three is crucial for Obama, while taking two of them is pivotal, but capturing all three pertends visions of a landslide in November.

If that's all there was today it would be good enough, but a new national Reuters/Zogby poll showed Obama up 5 points 47-42, confirming almost all the recent national polls showing McCain mired in the low 40's.

Survey USA today released a Wisconsin state poll which showed Obama up 9 points 52-43 in this always leaning blue battleground state, but one which John Kerry had to struggle to win.

The PPP poll published their latest Virginia findings today, giving Obama a 2 point lead in a state that hasn't gone blue in over 5 decades. This is a similar result to what Rasmussen released a few days ago showing this state very much in play.

Finally there was a new Washington Post/ABC News poll http://abcnews.go.com/PollingUnit/Vote20 08/story?id=5185695&page=1 which finds Michelle Obama with a 48% approval rating among voters compared with just 39% for Cindy McCain. This is definitely seen as a mild surprise, because, undoubtedly, Michelle Obama has been much more controversial in this election cycle when compared to Cindy McCain.

All in all, things are looking very good for Obama, and we can enjoy these findings, while reminding ourselves that there is no room for complacency or over-confidence. Hard work has gotten us this far and if we remain strong, and unified and continue to work hard in this marathon effort, there will be a lot more to enjoy in November.

Plus, Rasmussen shows Obama's closed within 4 in Alaska and has a wide lead in Maine (22 pts).

If these numbers continue, Obama is going to need a really good tailor to fit him for all those long coattails.

Re: A flurry of Obama polls (none / 0)

Absolutely. We need to campaign every day as if we're down ten points in the hole. These numbers are awesome, though, and a bit vindicating of the discourse of a mere month ago- let's keep it up.

Re: A flurry of Obama polls (none / 0)

Absolutely. But equally important to project confidence and strength; and better yet to have it be true!

One thing I don't worry about is Obama coasting to the finish. He strikes me as the kind of guy who will fight hard no matter what and will inspire the same his supporters.

Kage is dead on- it's like we're 10% down, everywhere.  Gotta keep up on all fronts until November.

I hate that saying.

How about campaign like we're tied everywhere?

Agreed... who the hell is motivated to work for someone getting their brains beat in... when your tied you work like your decision to campaign is critical to the winning or losing.

Re: A flurry of Obama polls (none / 0)

Cindy McCain looks like a rich socialite. Which she is. She simply doesn't project a sympathetic front.

Michelle Obama is outspoken, but I think that only hurts her with people who wouldn't like her anyway. She seems intelligent, cheerful, and down to earth.

I am, of course, staggeringly biased in my assessment, but I'm not surprised that Obama comes out ahead in that matchup.

I am, somewhat.

There's no reason that Laura Bush should've been MUCH more popular than Theresa Heinz-Kerry.  (Granted, THK does fit into that "rich socialite" image, but I'd rather be on the road with her than Laura...)

Even ARG gets in the act (2.00 / 1)

Obama is up double-digits now over McCain in New Hampshire and leading McCain by five in Florida according to ARG.

I think we all know about ARG's problems during the primary season, with the exception of their polling for Kentucky and West Virginia.  Their Florida poll seems to confirm the finding by Quinnipiac that Florida is a toss-up at this point.

Some more! (2.00 / 1)

Here are some more

ARG has Obama up by 12(!) in New Hampshire and 5(!) in Florida. Rasmussen has Obama up 22(!!) in Maine.

Bah, more!  Rasmussen has Obama down by just 4 in Alaska!

Re: A flurry of Obama polls (2.00 / 1)

One real time benefit of all these polls is that  they will help discourage campaign contributions to McCain, while sapping the energy of their campaign workers.

Re: A flurry of Obama polls (none / 0)

It also puts a stake in the heart of the pundits and concern trolls who claimed based on absolutely zero evidence that Obama had a Hispanic problem or a women problem or couldn't win states that Clinton won, etc., etc.,.

The GE has barely begun and all that BS is already being blown away.

VERY encouraging polls out today.  We might actually win this one...

Re: A flurry of Obama polls (none / 0)

Yes, we are going to win this one.  Although early polls are, well, early polls, they still give us cause for optimism in that Obama is picking up steam.  Now wait until Americans learn more about the real John McCain.

I am not worried about how this will turn out ever since I learned that Obama has resources that few have dreamed about.

And while we are at, there is very good reason to be suspicious of McCain, which BSG fans will appreciate.

Michelle Obama (none / 0)

...has a 100% approval rating from me.

I know who I want on my side in a fight, and it isn't the ridiculously entitled ex-beauty queen.

Er, sorry? (none / 0)

I'm not sure how my acknowledgement of Cindy McCain's status as an old-money debutante as being less tough than a self-made gal from the South side of Chicago was bad on any level.

If you'd explain your problem with it, I'd like to hear where I went wrong.

Re: A flurry of Obama polls (none / 0)

You didn't say debutante, you said beauty queen. You probably meant debutante or beauty queen, which would obviously distinguish her from Michelle Obama, if I get your drift, and for some reason Michelle would be good in a fight, which I took as a real physical fight - knives maybe.

But like I said initially, I'm sure you meant nothing untoward. Fuggetaboudit.
